PENVENTON PARK HOTEL METERING SURVEY & FEASIBILITY STUDY: £60,000 Carbon Trust loan with £15,000 savings pa
Owned by the Pascoe family, this Georgian mansion hotel on the outskirts of Redruth has a fine reputation as one of the most luxurious hotels in Cornwall. Each of the 64 bedrooms is comfortable and well decorated and has earned the highest AA grading. The hotel’s facilities include a heated indoor swimming pool, spa and sauna in addition to a luxury restaurant and conferencing facilities.
Challenge: Work with a blank canvas to identify energy reduction projects
As a family owned and run business, Penventon Park Hotel did not have an in-house energy manager but the owners knew that the business had the potential for both cost and carbon reduction. They also knew that unlocking Carbon Trust loans required specialist input, so they turned to C3 to see what we could do.
Thinking: A complete turnkey energy reduction solution
Extensive portable metering was deployed to accurately measure consumption throughout the hotel. The findings identified opportunities for energy reduction and also the additional data needed to provide a robust business case, with the value of the Carbon Trust loan available being based on the annual tonnes of CO2 saved. C3 Resources, delivering on multiple projects, were in a position to obtain a loan value based on the cumulative tonnes of CO2 saved across all projects, meaning that those generating in excess of the loan value could support those that fell short.
Results: Projects 100% funded through interest free loan
C3 Resources provided a total solution from portable metering and data analysis to completing the Carbon Trust loan application and the selection of sub contractors on the hotel’s behalf. The project was 100% funded through an interest free loan and the hotel has reduced its energy costs by 15% – savings which have funded a boiler plant upgrade for further efficiencies.
